Christine W. Black Information
Christine Joan Wedmore was born in New Haven Ct. and grew up in New Britain, Ct. She attended Kingswood-Oxford School in West Hartford, Connecticut where she graduated in 1978. A fine Arts major, Black spent two years at University of Massachusetts before transferring to the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts. After completing her studies, she resided on Nantucket Island where she began her professional career as an artist.
Christine supported herself by accepting commissions in many disciplines. She was an illustrator, fabric designer, furniture painter and most notably a watercolor artist.
In 1990 Christine moved to Key West, Florida where she still maintains a studio. She is renowned for her paintings of the backcountry islands of the Florida Keys. Her work is collected throughout the world and she has received numerous awards for her simplistic, fluid approach to the medium.
Most recently, Christine has received much recognition for her photographs for which she has won several awards including 1st runner-up in Coastal Living Magazine. She is published in several magazines and freelances her landscape images for commercial publication. When not painting or taking photographs, Christine enjoys planning her next trip or going out in her rowboat. She is currently painting part time in Nantucket and in the Florida Keys where she resides with her husband Bill and son Zack.
